How many books can you read in a year?

Determining how many books one can read within a year will inevitably be met with questions about the parameters in which one encounters the stories.
Are you reading for fun or for work?
How fast do you read? How easily do you digest the material?
Are you reading or listening with an Audible subscription?

When I initially asked that question, all I knew is that I wasn't reading enough. Or rather, I wasn't devoting enough time to reading.
So, I started making the time and I started keeping track of the books I read to find out just how many I could read in a year. Turns out that the lucky number of books that I wrote down was 13 in 2019. I clarify the phrase "wrote down" because in January of that year, I set one of those New Year's Eve goals for myself to read 19 books in 2019. I'm feel almost certain that I met that goal, but let's be honest, I didn't write it down, so who can really tell?
Then, 2020: the year where we all 'lived lifetimes within 365 days and somehow lost a year' happened and I didn't keep track.
So, here we go... back at it. I think that a good goal is the same number of books as the year itself. 2021 should see 21 books pass through my fingertips. I've already gotten a few under my belt, so I would say that I'm off to a good start!
But then again, I haven't written them down.

The ones I did write down (and will keep updating as I go):
2019 - 12
2020 - who knows?
2021 - 15
2022 - 16
2023 - 18
2024 - 40 (welcome to audiobooks)
2025 - coming soon
